I know I've been a bit quiet on this blog
recently and here's why......6 months ago my hubby and I packed up and moved
from Johannesburg to the mother city. We've always been drawn to the
creativity, buzz, beauty, design, jazz and the amazing people of the city and
had always thought of moving here at some point in out lives. Well 6 months ago
my hubby got offered a job at Prudential and being the good wife I am I
followed ;). Since I work in retail and with Cape Town being the retail capital
of South Africa I was fortunate enough to land a job at Woolies.
As difficult as this is to believe we have
moved 5 times in these 6 months – not the easiest move lol. Since I work in
town we decided to look for a place in the City Bowl. The demand for a place in
the City Bowl is ridiculous; a home advertised on Gumtree can get rented out
within minutes. After two rejected applications in Higgovale, one in Gardens
and one in Tamboerskloof, we finally found a place in Devils Peak. That however
did not come without issues - the rental agency advertised the place without a
termination contract from the current tenant whose original lease only expired
two months after the advertised date - yes it is indeed a joke. This left us homeless once again
and we were forced to take a 2 months short-term rental, fortunately we found a
beautiful townhouse in Devils Peak close to spot we were meant to move into. Oh I
forgot to mention that while all this was happening my husband was in Singapore
studying and I lived in a time-share unit for 1 month fighting with the rental
agency and working at woolies form 8am to 7pm everyday – the joys lol. Anyway, we
eventually moved in to our long awaited apartment in December only to find a
place that had not been cleaned, broken door handles, broken light switches, walls
painted in different colours and to top it all off the rental agency decided to
close for the holidays. At this point my husband and I were highly frustrated!
By some miracle it was at this point that he received an email from an agent about a house in Tamboerskloof (our preferred area) and we
grabbed it and moved out.
Now that I am finally settled in a
beautiful home in Tamboerskloof I have time to blog again yay!! I must admit waking
up to the view of the mountain, the weekend drives, magical markets, divine
food, beautiful wine farms, lush forests, sunsets and of course my favourite
the azure ocean has made up for the challenge faced in our first 6 months in
Cape town. In fact it’s all a big laugh, makes a good story to tell all part of
experiencing life :)
The City I live in!
